Red Salute to Minakshi Sen
Noted progressive writer and academician Minakshi Sen, who had been deeply sympathetic to the revolutionary communist movement, passed away on 24th October 2014 at Agartala. She had been associated with a variety of people’s movements, ever since her involvement with the Naxalbari movement in the 1970s when she was a student at City College, Kolkata.
She was arrested in 1973 and was released from jail in 1977. Her experience in jail was reflected in her celebrated works Jeler Bhetor Jel and Paglabari Parba.
After her post graduation she came to Tripura and became a college teacher, and soon became a very popular and beloved teacher.
Her academic work on gender, media, conflict and reconciliation, as well as the languages, oral languages, music and literature of the North Eastern region is extremely important.
Till her death she maintained a very warm relationship with CPI(ML). Not long before her demise she had agreed to join the All India People’s Forum.
Her passing is an immeasurable loss for revolutionary literature and the progressive democratic movement.
