Lalgarh has reportedly been ‘won’ by the troops in the operation jointly sponsored by the CPI(M)-led State Government and the Centre, where both Manmohan and Mamata are partners. Adivasis at Lalgarh continue to remain in a precarious state, with thousands displaced, battling hunger. They have been protesting against the siege, and against the conversion of schools into police camps. The entire armed operation, conducted in the name of combating Maoism, failed to yield any ‘Maoists.’ Yet, Maoism was the pretext to arrest any citizens, intellectuals or filmmakers who sought to observe what went on.

CPI(ML) conducted a series of protests against the repression at Lalgarh, demanding withdrawal of the troops from Lalgarh and meeting of the demands raised by the PSBJC (People’s Committee against Police Atrocities). On 18 June a procession condemning the joint action of state and central force at Lalgarh was organized at Siliguri. On 19 June a protest meeting was held at Gajol, addressed by Mrittunjoy Das, Manabendranath Roy and Emanuel Hembram. On 20 June CPI(ML)’s Kolkata district committee organized a procession followed by a meeting at the heart of the city. State secretary Partha Ghosh, AISA state secretary Malay Tewary, RYA state president Souvik Ghoshal and AIPWA leader Indrani Ghosh addressed the meeting. On the same day processions were also organized at Bankura and Bardhaman. After the procession a mass meeting held at Bardhaman Kusumbazar, addressed by Annada Prasad Bhattacharjee and Ansarul Aman Mondal. On 21 June a procession was held in the Shayamsundar Thana area. On 22 June a procession followed by a mass meeting was organized Satgachhiya Bazar area. On 23 June, protest processions were organized at Asansol,Jalpaiguri, Mainagudi Rajarhat and Baburhat, and Alipurduar. On 24 June protest procession organized at Bardhaman City. After the procession District Secretary Srikanta Rana and Comrade Kunal Baxi addressed a good gathering.

On 23 June AISA and RYA activists held a militant demonstration in front of Writers’ Building in Kolkata in protest against offensive of the Indian version of the "Coalition of the Willing." Later, 43 activists courted arrest. At the police lock-up at Lalbazar, the arrested activists held a political meeting and the lock-up echoed with songs and speeches condemning the police action. The demonstration was led by Shouvik Ghoshal, State President of RYA and Debolina Ghosh, State President of AISA.

On 27 June, the CPI(ML), Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) and Mazdoor Kranti Parishad (MKP) jointly held protest meetings in Belgharia. At Chuchura, a hundred activists of RYA and AIPWA held a demonstration and blocked roads. The police resorted to lathicharge during which an AIPWA activist was injured. On 29 June, Nagarik Samanyay Manch held a protest meeting at Hazra More in Kolkata which was attended by many progressive and democratic activists.

On 29 June, the Hooghly district committee of AIPWA and RYA jointly organised a protest rally at Chinsura, demanding withdrawal of State and Central joint forces from Lalgarh, West Bengal. After the rally the police suddenly started lathi-charging the protestors, injuring several activists.

On 27 June AIPWA organized a meeting at Hazra crossing, Kolkata. Comrades Sukla Sen, Malina Baxi, Chandrasmita Chowdhury amd Indrani Dutta addressed it. On 28 June, the RYA Belghoria local committee and CPIML’s Belghoria Party committee jointly held a protest march on the same issue. Kolkata Nagorik Samonnay organized a meeting at Hazra crossing on 29th June. Intellectuals like Dr Pasupati Mahato, novelist Nabarun Bhattacharjee, journalist Sankar Roy, and essayist Panchu Roy addressed the meeting. Professor Amit Das Gupta presided over the meeting.

On 2nd July, the West Bengal State Committe of CPI(ML) organized a sit-in at College Street in Kolkata demanding an immediate halt to the police operations against the tribal people of Lalgarh. Party activists and supporters from North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts gathered at College Street. The sit-in was attended by Dipankar Bhattarcharya, General Secretary, CPI(ML), Partha Ghosh, West Bengal State Secretary, Kartik Pal, Politburo Member, and other leaders. Comrade Dipankar said that Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress which fought a hugely successful Lok Sabha campaign with the slogan of "Ma-Mati-Manush" is now a willing accomplice in the crimes perpetrated by the police and paramilitary forces on the people of Lalgarh. Comrade Partha Ghosh said the Maoists’ politics of assassination and adventurism had done immense damage to the mass movement. Mr. Pashupati Mahato, and Mr.Debaprasad Bandopadhyay, a professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, also addressed the gathering. Com Nitish Rai of the Gana Sanskriti Parishad and the Agnibina group presented popular songs of resistance.

On 9 July AIALA, RYA, and AIPWA organized protests in the districts of Nadia, Burdwan, North 24 PGS, Jalpaiguri, Hooghly at their respective district HQs. On 14 July AIALA and CPI(ML) jointly organized a sit-in at Midnapore city, addressed by Comrades Srikanta Rana, Bablu Banerjee, Kajal Dutta Gupta, Jayatu Deshmukh and Mina Pal. Beside these activities party comrades and mass organizations are also associated with Lalgarh Manch, a solidarity forum working in Kolkata in support of the ongoing movement by PSBJC. The Party supported the Bandh called by PSBJC on 8 July at Jangalmahal.

On 21 July Mamata Banerjee held a grand rally to commemorate Bengal's martyrs - claiming to pay tribute to all martyrs including those of Left-led struggles like the tebhaga struggle. There was a glaring gap: the heroic revolutionaries and youth of the Naxalbari movement who bore the brunt of Siddhartha Sankar Ray's reign of terror cannot fit into Mamata's narrative. Exposing Mamata's politics and challenging CPI(M)'s as well as Congress' latter-day reign of terror, CPI(ML) will observe a cultural-political campaign in and around Kolkata from 20 July (martyrdom day of Prabir Datta, who was killed during Siddhartha Shankar Ray’s reign of terror) to 5 August (martyrdom day of Comrade Saroj Dutta), observing Charu Majumdar's martyrdom day on 28 July.
