A joint women’s convention of AIPWA and other tribal women organizations – KNCA (Karbi), MMK (Mising), Sonowal-Kachari and Tiwa was held at Guwahati’s Tirthanath Sarma Sabhaghar on 14th July, 2007 to chalk out an immediate agenda for the women’s movement in Assam. The Convention focused on the widespread state terror against women by the Army and the growing instances of violence on women. The convention was participated by more than 300 women from different parts of the state and apart from the constituents of the ‘Anti-repression Joint Women Action Committee’ other women activists and writers also took part.
Comrade Meena Tiwari participated in the convention as the main speaker. Dr. Anima Guha, a columnist and leader of a women forum participated as the chief guest and described the assault of state terror and violence on women. Leaders of all the constituent women organizations spoke at the convention and debated the issues. Apart from these organizations, representatives from the Household Women Workers Union, North East Social Research Centre and Guwahati University Women Research and Study Centre spoke on the occasion.
As part of the nationwide campaign in the 150th year of 1857, RYA held a seminar at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan on July 14, at the Rehmania Academy. It was presided over by freedom fighter Vidyadhar Kulhari, and addressed by RYA National President Mohd. Salim, Mr. Vedvyas, President of the Bhaichara Foundation of Jaipur and Ummedali Khan of the Rehmania Academy.
