Condemn the Sangh’s Violent Opposition to Women’s Entry At Sabarimala

THE CPI(ML) condemns the violence and terror unleashed by right-wing groups (blessed by the Sangh and the BJP) in Kerala and neighbouring states against the entry of two women into the Sabarimala shrine. These groups have lobbed bombs at police stations in Kerala, and have violently attacked the offices of Left parties at many places in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Indian National Congress’ support for the regressive patriarchal position on Sabarimala is also condemnable.

The CPI(ML) also demands action against the Sabarimala priests for conducting a 'purification’ ritual after the entry of the two women: such a ritual is an act of untouchability towards women and Dalits, and is also a deliberate defiance of the Supreme Court’s order.

The CPI(ML) hails the Women’s Wall in Kerala for demonstrating the widespread determination of the state’s people and women to uphold progressive values and reject regressive, obscurantist, Brahmanical-patriarchal politics.
